When Humphrey Bogart died and was cremated in l957 his wife
Lauren Bacall placed a small gold whistle in the urn with his ashes.
Inscribed on the whistle is the famous line she delivered to Bogey in
their first film together, To Have and Have Not: "If you need anything,
just whistle."
Among actors buried with beloved objects are Bela Lugosi, whose last wish
was to go to the grave in the black cape he wore in his Dracula films. On
his deathbed silent-film star Rudolph Valentino insisted that he be buried
wearing the slave bracelet his wife Natasha had given him, even though
slave bracelets were considered "effeminate" at the time.
