begun to fight!" - John Paul Jones, Revolutionary War
"We have met the
enemy and they are ours." - Oliver H. Perry, War of 1812
"don't give up
the ship!" - John Lawrence, War of 1812. (He may really have said, "Tell the men
to fire faster and not to give up the ship until she sinks.")
"Damn the
torpedoes! Full speed ahead!" - David Farragut, Civil War
"Remember the
Maine!" - Anonymous slogan, Spanish-American War
"You may fire
when you are ready, Gridley." - George Dewey, Spanish-American War
"Remember Pearl
Harbor!" - Anonymous slogan, World War II.
