Many pirates chose to live under
colorful pseudonyms that they had invented or that were bestowed upon them.
Blackbeard, Diabolito, Captain Buzzard, Gentleman Harry, Long John, Black Bart,
and Calico Jack are only a few famous ones. Our nomination for the pirate with
the oddest assumed name, however, is the French pirate Captain Borgne-Fesse,
which translates as "Captain Half-Ass," an appellation about which history
remains silent.
