Clambake

 By Nana (Marilyn Maggio)

This summer why not go on a picnic and take along a clambake? Very simple, it all fits in one pot that you prepare at home and put on a barbecue at the picnic grounds. I will give you the ingredients for a clambake for 4 but you can easily double it. You will need a large lobster pot. That's the one with a bottom pot that has a spigot on it. Most hardware stores or department stores sell them and they are relatively inexpensive.

Ingredients

  • 4 1 1/2 lb. lobsters

  • 2 lbs. clams (steamers)

  • 4 corn on the cob

  • 8 red skinned small potatoes

  • lots of melted butter, salt and pepper.

Pour about I inch of water in the bottom portion of the lobster pot. Add some salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a splash of sauterne wine. Add the clams that you have soaked in cold water for half an hour. Put the top pot on and place potatoes and corn and then your lobsters in it. Cover and you are ready to place it on a hot barbecue for about an hour.

Make sure you have brought along a lot of napkins, you will definitely need them as you enjoy this delicious meal.
